On this course we will practice the core methods of fire making and gain an understanding of the simple methods and materials that make it possible to create fire in the wild. We will explore the art of shelter building and see how this could work effectively in Ireland’s and other countries climate. We will take a look at foraging for food and discuss the possibilities available and the type of landscape that would provide what is necessary to sustain human life. We will cook Bannock bread, the bread of the American frontier. You will learn simple navigation skills that are sometimes necessary whether you are out for a stroll in the woods or lost in the hills. We will take a look at the tools for bushcraft and how they can be used safely. Dress in warm clothing and bring rain gear (jacket and trousers). Wear strong footwear, boots or wellies. Please do not wear short trousers or short sleeves.

Our Big workshop weekend offers a range of full-day courses to choose from. You can take a single course or two courses over the weekend. Our courses always get positive feedback from participants and you will benefit from on hand expert tutors with years of experience in their field. The weekend format also offers you the opportunity to meet like-minded people and to spend some time in our gardens, orchards and woodlands in beautiful East Clare.
