New bee-keepers are essential in order to keep our bee population healthy. Topics covered will include how to get started, sourcing bees, the equipment needed and an overview of the bee keeping year. You will also learn about our native black bees and their colony, and what goes on inside it. We will discuss the importance of flowers and plants for the bees and there will be an Apiary practical session with open bee hives. Please bring wellies or boots high enough to tuck the bottom of your trousers into. Wear light coloured trousers. Avoid any dark colours and tight fitting leggings. If you know that you have an allergy to bee stings, do reconsider if this is the right workshop for you.

Our big workshop weekend offers a range of full-day workshops to choose from. You can take a single workshop or two workshops over the weekend. Our workshops always get positive feedback from participants and you will benefit from on hand expert tutors with years of experience in their field. The weekend format also offers you the opportunity to meet like-minded people and to spend some time in our gardens, orchards and woodlands in beautiful East Clare.
