The day will cover a wide range of relevant topics that will help you get the most out of Ireland's garden birds and equip you with the skills to identify the different species visiting and nesting in your garden and in other habitats. In this course we will focus on gardening for birds, how to provide safe habitats and plants as a food source, you will learn what to plant, the best food to provide in the Winter time and how to avoid common problems for you and for the birds. We will cover the basics of bird identification by both sight and sound and also look at how you can help wider conservation efforts by getting involved in the BirdWatch Ireland Garden Bird Survey. The day will be very interactive and involve several walks around the 20 acre site to practice the identification skills, familiarising you with the common bird species that are resident this time of the year. Winter is a perfect time for a first introduction to garden birds because they are easily visible on the bare branches. Bring binoculars if you have them and outdoor clothing.

Our Big workshop weekend offers a range of full-day courses to choose from. You can take a single course or two courses over the weekend. Our courses always get positive feedback from participants and you will benefit from on hand expert tutors with years of experience in their field. The weekend format also offers you the opportunity to meet like-minded people and to spend some time in our gardens, orchards and woodlands in beautiful East Clare.
