Description

We need to create a deeper understanding about our soils in order to regenerate our own health and the health of the planet. This course will cover the basics of The Soil Food Web, in a condense and practical format, using a microscope to bring the various characters in our soil to life. Discussing their roles and how they work together to form a symbiotic community that creates this vibrant material called humus. The course will discuss what conventional agriculture is doing to our soil communities, how cultivation, fertilizers and chemical sprays impact them. How the nutritional quality of food and our own health are affected.

It will look at the various composting techniques, focusing on hot/thermophilic composting and how to get the correct Fungi to Bacteria ratio (F:B) to maximise crop production. Looking at when best to apply and how to make it go further by using compost extracts or teas. With consumers wanting cheaper and cheaper food every day and our current commercial driven economic models, the issues surrounding farming are not easily solved However, we will talk about some solutions to these problems by highlighting positive examples that are happening in Ireland and around the world."It is no exaggeration to say that yesterday was the beginning of the biggest changes on my family's farm since we converted to organic. Your presentation was inspiring. My view of not only what I feed the soil and my cows, but also my family has been transformed."
